Formed in 1980, the Prevention Institute is the only one of its kind in Canada. The Prevention Institute is guided by the Members of the Corporation, a Board of Directors, a Medical Advisory Committee, and a Communications Committee.
We pay tribute and extend our gratitude to the founders of the Prevention Institute who saw the need to focus on the promotion of primary prevention. Their vision and determination to develop an organization that would bridge the gap between research and programming, and transfer knowledge about the prevention of disabilities in children to the public and professionals became a reality. In 2005, the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
Our Mission, “To Reduce the Occurrence of Disabling Conditions in Children” along with our slogan “Our Goal is Healthy Children”, help guide the Institute’s work. We believe that all children, regardless of their abilities, have the right to be as healthy as possible. Prevention programs and services are provided to parents, future parents, students, professionals, community groups, and the general public. The Prevention Institute is strongly committed to networking and partnering in projects that further prevention efforts, and actively pursue linkages to ensure a coordinated approach to prevention planning.
The Prevention Institute is located in the Kinsmen Children’s Centre at 1319 Colony Street in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. For more information on the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute, please refer to our Annual Report and History Booklet found under our Resources Section. |
